A record-setting Wissam Ben Yedder is MVP against Ajaccio (2024)

Scorer of his sixth career hat-trick in Ligue 1, and his third with AS Monaco, the captain of the Rouge et Blanc was logically named man of the match against Ajaccio at the Stade Louis-II (7-1).

He was extraordinary again! Already making his name in the history of the Club in recent weeks, Wissam Ben Yedder is becoming, step by step, one of the greatest legends in AS Monaco’s story. Against Ajaccio on Sunday, the captain of the Rouge et Blancconfirmed that the Stade Louis-II was indeed his “garden”, by scoring a lightning hat-trick, to help the team to a massive win (7-1).

No time to doubt

All in 14 minutes flat! After Axel Disasi’s opportunistic opener and Krépin Diatta’s having scored the second goal, it was indeed the Monegasque number 10 who responded to the reduction of the lead by Belaïli for Ajaccio. On a high press carried out by the duo of Vanderson and Ben Seghir, Captain’ Wiss recovered the ball at the edge of the Corsicans’ penalty area and finished perfectly to score the goal that would make it 3-1 (21′).

Mister 90% from the spot’

Seven minutes later, it was the Tsar who found his captain for a double from the left (4-1, 28′)! This festival would conclude with 420 seconds later, with one of his two specialties… the penalty. For the 28th time in 31 attempts since his arrival in the Principality (a 90% conversion rate), Wissam finished perfectly by sending a missile into the corner of Benjamin Leroy’s goal (5-1, 35′).

A sixth hat-trick in Ligue 1

It was job done and his 6th hat-trick in Ligue 1, his third already in Rouge et Blanc. Only Kylian Mbappé and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have achieved more in the 21st century (7 each), notes our partner Opta. It is also the earliest hat-trick for a Ligue 1 player since Cheick Diabaté with Bordeaux against Guingamp in April 2014.

A place in the all-time top three

And with these three goals, the Monegasque striker also moved ahead of Christian Dalger, into third place in the ranking of the best scorers in the history of the Club, with 89 goals. Immense! It is therefore logical that he was named MVP of this attacking festival by you, the supporters of the club on the AS Monaco App with… 94% of the votes! And for the ninth time this season! It was a real honor, this, for Wissam Ben Yedder, who also appeared this Monday morning in L’Équipe‘s team of the round.Chapeau Captain! 🎩

Eclair. #ASMACA https://t.co/i1Q8DRwALp
